Points of interest
Loucha, a paradise for hikers and cyclists. On the island there are hiking trails that you can follow, or you can choose to go on your own discovery through the beautiful greenery in the mountain surroundings.
With the bike and / or mountain bike
The sporty types among us can enjoy unlimited views of the sea, valleys, forests and cosy narrow streets throughout the island. If you still want to take a small or slightly longer break, there are plenty of nice terraces for a drink and a snack at low prices.
Zakynthos
Zakynthos , the capital city of the island, was almost completely destroyed in 1953 by an earthquake. But despite this setback, the city has been completely rebuilt into a cosy neighbourhood with various squares, museums, terraces, bars and a shopping street. In short, something for everyone!
Blue caves
The coastline is generally rocky. Through the years, many caves have been formed that are now on display. The reflection of the light on the water gives a bright blue view in the rock parts, which are especially beautiful in the morning sun. The caves are located near Agios Nikolaos and Skinari Cape.
In Xigia the caves contain collagen and sulfur which is very good against rheumatism and painful joints.
Caretta turtles The Caretta turtles, also called loggerhead turtles by the size of their heads, live in the Mediterranean, mainly on the southern side of Zakynthos on sheltered beaches. The beaches of Kalamaki and Gerakas are sometimes completely closed because the turtles lay their eggs there.
Laganas Laganas is best known for its nightlife, but there are many tourist boat trips to other attractions.
Navagio Bay The Navagio Bay is surrounded by limestone rocks and cliffs. It is mainly known from the shipwreck that has been there since 1983. According to the stories of the local population, the ship was originally used to smuggle cigarettes.
The beach, in combination with the azure blue sea, is dazzlingly beautiful, it is the ideal place to take your holiday photos.
Monasteries
Tsilivi
Kampi and Keri
Monasteries can be found all over the island. For example, you have the monasteries Eleftherotria , St Georgios , Krimon , Anafonitria and much more.
Tsilivi has a beautiful beach of 2 km long and is best known for its nightlife.
In addition, you can sail from here to other destinations with fishing boats.
In Kampi , the southwest of the island, beautiful sunsets can be seen. At Kampi-Porto it is possible to enjoy the beautifully coloured sunsets on a mountainside during a delicious dinner.
Keri is situated on a mountain and therefore has a beautiful view of the sunsets. Different colour shades reflect on the water surface.
Loucha Loucha is one of the few villages that is very quiet, so there are not many tourists. The village was not damaged by the earthquake and is therefore completely intact as the villagers have built it themselves. Stone houses, landscaped gardens and ornate fences in stone and ironwork. The streets are partly steep and narrow, they are paved in the style of the houses. The authentic architecture gives the feeling to go back in time. The village is in a unique place, on top of a beautiful valley where the villagers have their vineyards and allotments. The landscape is phenomenal and above all relaxing. It gives a taste of how
life is in the mountainous area of the island.
